Phillies get Lidge

The Phillies just made a pretty major deal with the Astos and old friend Ed Wade.

Phillies get : Brade Lidge and Eric Bruntlett
Astros get : Michael Bourn, Geoff Geary and Michael Costanzo.

My take is this - This allows the Phillies to move Lidge into the closer role and move Brett Myers back into the starting rotation and into the #2 spot in the Phillies rotation. It also gives the Phillies a versitile utility man that can play just about every position on the field. The Phils lose a lot of speed by giving up Bourn, but he was the right guy to give up over Victorino. Geary is a washed-up middle innings guy who can replaced without a problem. Costanzo is the interesting piece here. He was a top prospect for the Phillies and had some decent power numbers at AA- Reading. However, he stuckout a lot and wasnt moving along as fast as the Phillies had hoped, he is 24 years old. Overall, I like the deal. My main concern - what if Lidge melts down here like he did in Houston, the fans wount be so nice and then what, move Myers back to the pen...we'll see. This is the first piece in what should be a very different looking bullpen next season.

Phillies current staff :
1. Cole Hamels
2. Brett Myers
3. Kyle Kendrick
4. Jamie Moyer
5. Adam Eaton

Set-Up - Tom Gordon
Closer - Bradd Lidge

After this week, it gets interesting.
